National coat of arms
The national coat of arms of Albania (1946-1991) depicts the two-headed eagle facing left and right, based on the family Skanderberg coat of arms. Above it, a 5-pointed star, is a symbol for communism. The whole is surrounded by a wreath of wheat bound together by a ribbon with the text "24 MAJ 1944" at the bottom. This date (May 24th, 1944) is the day of the Congress of Përmet where the communist leaders of Albania elected a provisional government.
