Coat of arms
The coat of Arms of Aruba depicts a shield with a lion on top. The lion is a reference to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and stands for power. The shield is divided into four segments by a white cross and symbolizes faith. The quarter at the top left shows an aloe plant, the island's first important export. At the top right the vulcanic formation Hooiberg (haystack in English) arising from the sea (which symbolizes Aruba as a whole). The bottom right quarter shows a cogwheel symbolizing industry and progression. Finally, the left bottom segment depicts two holding hands standing for the relationship between Aruba and the rest of the world. Below the shield two laurel twigs are depicted which are often related to peace.
