Coat of arms
The coat of arms of the Bahamas consists of an escutcheon divided in an upper part with a rising sun and a lower part with Columbus' 'Santa Maria' on waves. The escutcheon is supported by a marlin and a flamingo. The crest is a Sovereign helmet with a conch shell on top. Behind the shell five palm leaves on a wreath. Below the banner says the national motto: "FORWARD - UPWARD, ONWARD - TOGETHER".
