National emblem
The national emblem of Cape Verde is a circle with at the bottom 3 horizontal bars (the sea for nostalgia). The triangle and torch in the middle represent freedom after a long struggle (torch) and national unity, equality and civil rights (triangle). Also, inside the circle the name of the nation in Portuguese "REPÚBLICA DE CABO VERDE". On top a plumb-bob is a symbol of righteousness. The circle is flanked by 10 stars, each for each island. The 3 chains underneath the circle are flanked by two palm leaves.
