Emblem

The emblem of the People's Republic of China consists of a gold Tiananmen Gate, the gate to the Forbidden Square. Above the gate five stars, as on the national flag. The largest star represents the Communist Party and the four smaller stars represent the four classes described in Maoism. The whole is surrounded by a inner wreath of rice and an outer ring of wheat for the agriculture of China. Industry is represented by the cog wheel at the bottom.

Currencies

Yuán in Chinese: 元

The yuán is the primary unit of the national currency of China, also called Renminbi. It is represented on Chinese coins with the Han-character 元. This informal way of writing means "beginning". When it is written formally as 圆 or 圓 it means round, as the shape of the coin.

Jiǎo in Chinese: 角

The jiao is a decimal currency of the Chinese yuán (1/10). It is represented on Chinese coins with the Han-character 角. The character has several meanings amongst angle and corner.

Fēn in Chinese: 分

The fēn is a decimal currency of the Chinese yuán (1/100). It is represented on Chinese coins with the Han-character 分. The character has several meanings amongst fraction and minute.
