Laura Cretara

BiographyCretara is an Italian medallist and sculptor. She attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (IT) and was taught by masters like Guttuso, Fazzini, Giampaoli and Balardi at the Scuola dell'Arte della Medaglia della Zecca di Stato. She became an engraver at the Mint of Rome (IT) in 1961 and was the first female Italian signing engraver. Amongst others she designed the national side of the Italian 1 euro coin (KM# 216) depicting the Vetruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci.
