Coat of Arms
The coat of arms on Ghana coins shows a St. George's cross which divides a shield in four parts. The upper left part shows a local sword (okyeame) crossed by a staff, while the upper right shows a floating castle (the presidential palace in Accra.) The first signifies the regional governments and the latter symbolizes the national government. The lower left part shows a cacoa tree (a agricultural symbol) and the lower right part symbolizes the natural riches of Ghana with a gold mine. In the middle of the cross a lion represents the relationship of Ghana with the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom.
