Coats of Arms
The coat of arms of Jamaica from 1957 to 1962 shows a shield decorated with a cross. On the cross 5 pineappels are placed. On top of the shield are a helmet and a crocodile sitting on a log. The banner underneath shows the text: "INDVS VTERQVE SERVIET VNI", which means 'The two Indians will serve as one'.
In 1962 a new coat of arms was adopted. The new design has an english text on the banner: "OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE" signifying the different tribes that form the nation. On the coins the supporters, an indeginous woman and man, were depicted as well.
