Coats of Arms
The coat of arms of the Netherlands Antilles consists of a shield, a crown and a banner. The shield is gold with a red border. On the shield five-pointed stars represent each island of the country, 6 until 1986 and 5 after Aruba became an independent state. On top of the shield the crown represents the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Underneath the shield a golden banner says: "LIBERTATE VNANIMVS" (Latin for 'United in Freedom').
Coat of Arms of the Netherlands
The Small Royal Coat of Arms shows a shield with golden blocks. On the shield a crowned lion is placed with in it's right raised claw a sword and in his left claw seven arrows, symbolizing the seven provinces united in the Union of Utrecht. The shield wears the Royal crown.
Coins of the Antilles are decorated with the Dutch less coat of arms until 1970. After that the coat of arms of the Antilles is used.
