Coat of Arms of Nigeria
The national coat of arms of Nigeria consists of a shield decorated with a black background (representing the fertile grounds of Nigeria) with a Y-shaped silver band. The two arms of the Y represent two main rivers of Nigeria, Benue River and the Niger River, which together stream as the Niger. The horses on each side represent dignity and the eagle on top represents strength. The green-white band on which the eagle stands is a symbol for the agricultural riches. On the bottom the national flower, Costus spectabilis, is show six times. The banner underneath the shield shows the national motto in different forms: "UNITY AND FAITH" or "UNITY AND FAITH, PEACE AND PROGRESS".
