Coats of Arms
The coat of arms of Venezuela is decorated in the colours of the national flag: red, yellow and blue. The red field contains a bundle of ears of grain which represent the 20 states of the Republic. The yellow field cointains a sabre, a sword and three lances bounded by a laurel wreath together with two flags. The blue field shows a white horse which represents independence and freedom. Two cornucopias top the the emblem amongst flourishing plants. Besides the shield an olive branch and a palm branch are bound together at the bottom by a tricolor banner. The banner, again in het colours of the national flag, bears the text: "19 de Abril de 1810 Independencia 20 de Febrero de 1859 Federación República Bolivariana de Venezuela" (English: April 19th 1810 Independence February 20th 1859 Federation Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.) The seven stars, which are on the national flag as well, represent the seven signatories to the Venezuelan declaration of independence.
