He was born as Viktoras Barnauskas in Lithuania, but changed his name when he emigrated to the United States in 1890. Later, he studied in Paris (FR) under Oscar Roty at Académie Julian in Paris (FR). He is most notably known for the design of the United States Lincoln cent.
