Coat of Arms
The national coat of arms of Nauru consists of an escutcheon divided in three sections. The upper section shows a symbol for phosphor (symbolizing its mining industry). The lower sections show a frigatebird on the right and a callophylum flower. The escutcheon is surrounded by feathers of the frigatebird, shark teeth and palm leaves (symbols of a tribal chief). On top a star (from the national flag) and a banner with the text: "NAOERO", which means 'Nauru' in Nauruan. The lower banner says: "GODS WILL FIRST", which is the national motto and symbolizing the importance of religion.
