Coat of Arms of Suriname
The coat of arms of Suriname consists of a shield, two supporters and a motto. The shield is decorated with a sailing, golden ship on the right, the symbol of slaves carried out of Africa (the past) and, to the left, the Royal Palm tree, the symbol of justice (the present). In the center the diamond symbolizes a heart (love) which points in the four directions of the wind. In the diamond the five-pointed golden star symbolizes the five continents from which the inhabitants of Suriname migrated. The supporters are two Arawak Indians (native inhabitants of Suriname) dressed in loin clothes and carrying long bows and a quiver. The motto says: "JUSTITIA, PIETAS, FIDES", meaning: justice, duty and fidelity.
