Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Austria (1815-1866) as part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire under Habsburg rule. The central escutcheon is divided in three parts. The central part shows the coat of arms of Babenberg. It is flanked by the coats of arms of Habsburg and Lorraine. The escutcheon is held by a double-headed eagle decorated with the Order of the Royal Fleece. It also holds the globus cruciger (orb and cross) in its left talon and the Imperial Sword and Scepter in its right talon. Both heads of the eagle are crowned and the Austrian Imperial crown supercedes the whole.
The coat of arms of Austria since WW II shows an eagle, the sovereignty of Austria. It holds a shield decorated with the national flag of Austria, two horizontal red bars divided by a white bar. The eagle wears a mural crown representing the middle class of the nation. In its claws the eagle holds a sickle and a hammer for agriculture and industry. The broken chains represent the liberation of the national-socialists after WWII.
