Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of Mauritius as it appears on coins is a shield (without the official carriers.) The shield is divided in four quarters, two golden, two azure. The top left azure depicts a golden lymphad, the top right gold quarter shows three palm trees, on the lower gold quarter a key can be seen and the lower azure shows a silver star above a mountain. The latter two are symbols of Mauritius (star and key of the Indian Ocean.) The lymphad (a type of ship) symbolizes the colonization by seafaring countries in the past.
